Wizkid ruled triumphant over the debut AfroRepublik festival at the O2 on Saturday night. The afrobeat focused festival saw 20,000 people descend on Greenwich to dance to the very best in African music.
A key figure both on stage and behind the scenes, Wizkid admitted before the show that “This festival was a dream and something I used to think about before it ever came to life. I’m just thankful to God we’re doing this.”
Wizkid topped a bill of jaw-dropping African talent including Mr Eazi, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Not3s, Yxng Bane and Maleek Berry
On the big night Wizkid was introduced by Naomi Campbell before he blazed through hits “Manya”, “Nowo”, “Final”, “In My Bed”, “Caro”, and newest release “Fake Love”.
Later he was joined on stage by Skepta for “Ojuelegba” which they performed alongside a full choir. After the show Skepta declared Wizkid “the biggest artist in the world right now”.
Also bigging up Wizkid was Star Wars actor John Boyega, who was in attendance and posted a photo of himself backstage with Wizkid and Tiwa Savage.

Despite the celebrity admirers Wizkid has remained grounded, telling the Evening Standard that he still gets nervous before going on stage; “Yeah those two seconds before you get on stage, I get the little butterflies. But it’s only two seconds and when I get on stage it’s fine,”.
Wizkid will now travel to Europe for the last of his summer dates.
