As Pendulum prepared for their first gig in Sydney in eight years, all was not well. Frontman Rob Swire had just been told he had severely damaged his throat and that he would not be able to sing.
Faced with a difficult situation the band decided to soldier on, though offered refunds to those who wanted them.
By all accounts anyone who took one massively missed out.
Fans rallied around Swire with the idea of ‘Pendulum Karaoke’ circulating on social meida before the event.
The crowd expertly filled in for Swire on the vocal parts and rallied around bassist Gareth McGrillen who took over hype man duties.
Australian Guitar Magazine called the gig; “At the end of the day, Swire’s vocal issues didn’t matter because frankly, you wouldn’t have been able to hear him over the roaring sea of voices in the pit.”
